After working in other offices, the young architect opens his own firm.
(Cary, NC) – Architect Rusty Long, AIA, has announced the founding of his own firm in Cary, Rusty Long, Architect (www.rustylong.com).
It’s been a dream of mine, since embarking on my architectural education, to start my own firm, Architecture isn’t just a profession to me. It’s a calling. I’ve always felt that there was a need, and a demand, for modern, service-oriented architectural design in the Triangle. I believe strongly that everyone deserves to live and work in a well-designed built environment, and hope to help make that possible for many people for years to come.
Originally from Greensboro, NC, Long grew up in the Triangle region and attended the NC State University College of Design in Raleigh, where he received his Bachelors of Architecture degree in 2005, graduating with honors. He worked at Centex Homes in Raleigh through college, and briefly at BuildSense in Durham after graduation. In 2005, he received the NCSU Masonry Design Award.
For the past five years, Long has worked with Davenport Architecture & Design Inc. of Roanoke Island, NC. His project experience with Davenport’s firm ranged from small residential additions to large commercial and institutional projects, including several renovation projects for NC State University, for the Shoppes of Kildaire shopping center in Cary (home to the Triangle’s first Trader Joe’s), and for Sutton Square shopping center in Raleigh. He also worked on renovations and additions at the Lost Colony Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island.
A member of the American Institute of Architects, Rusty Long is also a member of Preservation North Carolina’s Professional Associates Network and has served on Triangle Modernist Houses’ Advisory Council. He is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), which means he has met the highest professional standards established by the registration boards responsible for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
Long says he is looking forward to working on such projects as single family houses, adaptive reuse and renovation projects (commercial, and residential), and fit-up / interiors projects.
Rusty Long lives in Cary with his wife, Julie, an elementary school teacher in Wake County, and his young daughter, Erynn. Another daughter is on the way.
